Face Lift

Cosmedic offers a variety of facial lifts, from the traditional face lift to the 'S' lift, Mini lift and a range of special, minimally invasive lifts for Brow areas and Neck tightening.

Aging is a natural process, which frequently results in sagging skin and wrinkles of the face. In addition, as we age, the muscles of the neck may weaken. Dr John Flynn can help improve these conditions. Both men and women of various ages request this type of surgery. As a result of advancements in the technique, it is not uncommon for patients to request facelift surgery from the ages of the late 30's to the 70's.

The "facelift" as we commonly refer to this procedure, "lifts" the face and neck in one operation. A "double chin" can be improved at the same time by a surgical procedure called sub mental lipectomy. Additional procedures, such as forehead lifting or eyelid surgery, can be performed at the same time to effect a more complete facial rejuvenation.

How Facelifts Are Performed

The incision for your facelift usually begins in the hair near the temple and continues in front of the ear, around the ear lobe, behind the ear and into the hair. This placement prevents easy detection. The muscles and sagging tissue are tightened, excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is repositioned to create a more youthful look. If there is a double chin, sub mental lipectomy may be performed. A small incision is usually made under the chin so that Liposculpture may remove the fat.

The surgery takes an average of two to three hours and can be performed using either a local or general anaesthetic. Preferences will be discussed with DR Flynn during your consultation. This operative procedure can be performed in the hospital or a day hospital.

How Will I Look After the Surgery?

Some swelling- and bruising can be expected and normally subsides within several weeks. Sutures are usually removed within approximately one week after surgery.

There may be some discomfort after the operation. This usually is easily controlled by medications prescribed by DR Flynn. Patients generally feel a sense of tightness and numbness that should gradually return to normal within several weeks.

After recovery, patients can expect a more rested and often youthful appearance. Although a facelift can last for many years, patients continue to age. Therefore, it is impossible to predict how long it might be before an individual would consider a second lift.

What are the Risks?

Bleeding is the most common complication, occurring occasionally after facelift surgery. It can almost always be treated without interfering with the final result. Occasionally, scars may have to be revised. There are risks in any surgical procedure. The degree of improvement varies with each patient. You should discuss all the benefits and risks with DR Flynn .

The Cost?

DR Flynn and staff will discuss all financial arrangements with you prior to surgery.

Mini-Lift

MINI LIFTS or MINIMALLY INVASIVE procedures open a whole new approach to facial rejuvenation allowing incremental ( step by step ) small changes which can be spread over time without the dramatic, obvious effects of a "full" facelift. The other advantage of course is shorter or less visible scars, less bruising and importantly, less down time. This type of approach fits in with the natural aging process and allows corrections at appropriate times - "maintenance rather than rescue".

So really, you don't need to have everything done at once. Scheduling the right "minimally invasive" procedure at the right time allows for more graceful aging. This approach is particularly suitable for those persons under 60 and those who have had a previous facelift, which needs some tightening and is equally appropriate for Men and Women.

The MINIMALLY INVASIVE PROGRAMME allows for brow lifts, eye area rejuvenation, laser resurfacing, photo rejuvenation, Mini facelifts, 'S' lift, Neck lifts, facial fat transfers, facial liposculpture, chin and cheek implants. Usually there is no need for a general anaesthetic and procedures can be done as day surgery if desired. Make sure you have all the risks as well as the benefits explained before you proceed.

Whereas the conventional facelift may leave significant visible scars and loss of hair, the Mini-Lift has no incision behind the ear and that at the front of the ear is concealed within the fold. Swelling and bruising and the risks of complications are minimised because less skin has to be lifted off the muscle layer.

It can be performed in conjunction with other procedures such as eyelid surgery, facial liposuction and laser resurfacing.
